HEAD OF MEDIA RELATIONS NORWAY
Join SAS and help shape our voice in Norway
SAS is looking for a talented and ambitious media relations professional to help strengthen our position and reputation in Norway.
This is an opportunity for someone who has already built strong experience in journalism, communications, PR, or media relations and is now ready to take on broader responsibility in one of Scandinavia’s most visible companies.
You understand the Norwegian media landscape, have sound editorial judgment, communicate clearly, and are motivated by the opportunity to grow.
You will become part of SAS’ Communication, Public Affairs and Sustainability team. We work closely across Norway, Denmark, and Sweden to strengthen, develop, and protect the SAS brand and to support SAS’ role as a driving force in aviation.
Challenges you will work on:
You will be SAS’ key media contact in Norway and help lead our day-to-day media relations activities in the Norwegian market.
You will handle both proactive and reactive communications, develop relationships with journalists, identify relevant stories, and help ensure that SAS communicates consistently, credibly, and effectively.
The role combines substantial responsibility with practical execution. On some days, you may advise senior leaders or help manage a complex media situation. On others, you may draft a press release, update a media list, prepare a briefing, coordinate an interview, or respond directly to a journalist.
We are looking for someone who understands that excellent communications depend on both strategic judgment and attention to detail. No task is too small when it contributes to the success of the team.
Key responsibilities
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with Norwegian journalists, editors, and other relevant media stakeholders.
• Act as a media spokesperson and point of contact for SAS in Norway.
• Handle incoming media requests and ensure timely, accurate, and professional responses.
• Identify and develop proactive media opportunities that strengthen awareness and understanding of SAS.
• Develop and execute PR activities and campaigns in Norway, in close collaboration with colleagues across Scandinavia.
• Draft, coordinate, and support the approval of press releases, statements, messages, Q&As, and media briefings.
• Prepare executives and other SAS spokespersons for interviews and public appearances.
• Support the development of executive communications, including talking points, presentations, social media content, and stakeholder communications.
• Contribute to crisis communications, including preparation, coordination, media handling, and execution.
• Monitor Norwegian media coverage and the wider public agenda, identify relevant developments, and provide clear insights to colleagues and management.
• Help ensure consistent messaging across markets, channels, and departments.
• Support communications relating to SAS’ strategy, operations, customer offering, corporate development, and sustainability ambitions.
• Contribute actively to shared team priorities and practical communications tasks across the Scandinavian organization.
The Team
You will join SAS’ Communication, Public Affairs and Sustainability team and work closely with colleagues across Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Together, the team strengthens, develops, and protects the SAS brand while supporting SAS’ strategy, operations, public affairs agenda, and sustainability ambitions.
To be successful we believe you have
You may currently work in a newsroom, communications team, public affairs function, PR agency, corporate press office, or another environment where media judgment and clear communication are essential.
You have probably gained several years of relevant experience, but we are more interested in your capabilities, potential, and motivation than in your current title.
We believe you have:
• Relevant experience in journalism, media relations, PR, corporate communications, or a related field.
• A strong understanding of the Norwegian media landscape and public agenda.
• Excellent editorial judgment and the ability to identify what makes a story relevant.
• Strong writing and storytelling skills.
• The confidence to communicate with journalists, executives, specialists, and colleagues at all levels of an organization.
• The ability to translate complex matters into clear and accessible messages.
• An interest in aviation, business, sustainability, politics, and societal issues.
• The ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment and integrity.
• Fluency in Norwegian and excellent professional English, both verbally and in writing.
Experience from an airline or the transport industry is not required. Curiosity, strong judgment, and an ability to understand a complex business are more important.
The kind of colleague we hope to find
• You are ambitious, curious, and keen to develop. You want to take responsibility, but you are equally comfortable contributing as part of a team.
• You are not motivated by hierarchy or title. You are motivated by doing communications work that matters and by achieving strong results together with others.
• You combine confidence with humility. You are willing to challenge constructively, ask questions, listen to colleagues, and step in wherever support is needed.
• You enjoy a working environment where priorities can change quickly and where strategic issues and practical execution often go hand in hand. You remain calm under pressure, maintain high professional standards, and follow tasks through to completion.
• Above all, you are a team player. You share information, support colleagues, and contribute to the collective success of the Scandinavian communications team.
