Duty Station Manager – Drive Operational Excellence

As a Duty Station Manager, you will:

 

Play a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and punctual airport operations across Italy, Switzerland, and Malta, with a primary focus on Rome FCO – a critical hub for SAS. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive operational performance, maintain high standards, and ensure a seamless passenger experience.

You will be responsible for supervising ground handling operations, building strong relationships with partners and subcontractors, and ensuring they meet SAS standards. In this role, you will be visible, proactive, and solution-oriented, acting as a key representative of SAS on-site.

Challenges you will work on:

 

In this dynamic role, you will oversee operations covering approximately 7,000 departures annually. You will ensure safe and punctual performance across multiple stations while handling operational challenges, disruptions, and performance deviations.

You will collaborate with ground handling agents, airport authorities, and regulatory bodies to optimize operations, improve processes, and ensure compliance. Your ability to drive performance and find pragmatic, win-win solutions will be essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe and punctual operations at all airports in Italy, Switzerland, and Malta.
  • Monitor daily operations, including extra, ad-hoc, and charter flights.
  • Manage and negotiate with third parties and subcontractors in case of non-performance.
  • Maintain and update local procedures, ensuring alignment between SAS and partners.
  • Validate invoices and identify discrepancies.
  • Monitor and report station performance (daily, weekly, monthly, and long-term).
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance performance and reduce costs.
  • Act as Emergency Response Coordinator when required.
  • Ensure compliance with SAS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with airport authorities and airline partners to improve operations.
  • Represent the Station Manager when required.
  • Coordinate airport-related issues across the region.
  • Analyse deviations and implement corrective actions together with partners.

The Team:


You will be part of SAS’ Global Line Stations within the Ground Operations division. We are a collaborative and performance-driven team focused on delivering safe, efficient, and customer-centric airport services. Through teamwork, humility, and determination, we continuously strive to improve and optimize our operations. You will report to the Station Manager and Regional Manager and be part of a small, close-knit, high-performing team.

To be successful, we believe you have:

 

  • Extensive experience in Airport Operations and a strong ambition to grow.

  • Good understanding of SMS (Safety Management Systems) and quality systems.

  • Strong knowledge of aviation regulations, laws, and agreements.

  • Familiarity with IATA SGHA and SLAs.

  • Experience with Altea DCS and Microsoft Office.

  • Financial understanding and experience with budget follow-up.

  • Fluency in English and Italian (spoken and written).

It is also advantageous if you have experience in a managerial or leadership role.
