ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE LEAD

City:  Solna
Job Function:  IT

Engineering Excellence Lead, SAS – Digital & IT

At SAS Digital & IT, we are driving the evolution of application development practices to enable scalable, high quality software delivery. We are now looking for an Engineering Excellence Lead who will play a key role in modernising our engineering capabilities across teams and ensuring technical excellence is embedded in everything we deliver. This is a senior, strategic role with real impact. Combining technology leadership, transformation, and collaboration across a complex, business critical organisation.

Challenges you will work on:

  • Drive the modernization of application development by coaching and enabling product teams to adopt effective engineering practices, including continuous delivery, DevOps ways of working, automated testing, cloudnative development, and AIassisted software engineering.
  • Focus on engineering practices and ways of working within product teams, rather than ownership of shared CI/CD platforms, infrastructure, or developer tooling.
  • Collaborate closely with software engineering teams to align agile delivery with technical excellence and sustainable software development.
  • Ensure strong integration between agile ways of working and robust application development lifecycles, including aligned standards, quality practices, and effective use of shared tooling.
  • Set direction and alignment for engineering standards and best practices across SAS, ensuring consistency, scalability, and continuous improvement across crossfunctional teams.
  • Coordinate with Digital & IT stakeholders and external partners to drive engineering transformation and uplift technical capability across the organisation.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and engineering approaches, assessing their relevance and fit with SAS’s strategic direction.
  • Support technology transitions and transformation initiatives, including changes in platforms, architectures, tooling usage, and ways of working.
  • Lead and grow the AI in SDLC Community of Practice, fostering transparency, learning, and continuous improvement while advancing AIenabled engineering maturity across SAS.

The Team

You will join the newly created Team Agile & AD Practices within SAS Digital & IT. The team consists of highly skilled professionals from diverse backgrounds, united by a strong commitment to collaboration, innovation, and engineering excellence.

In this role, you will work closely with Tech Leads, Developers, Product Owners, Consultants and Transformation teams. You will act as a catalyst for change. Embedding engineering excellence into daily delivery while clearly communicating progress, direction, and impact across the organisation.

To be successful, we believe you have:

  • A university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in software development, including several years in a Tech Lead, Principal Engineer, or similar engineering leadership role.
  • Proven success driving improvements in application development practices within agile, product‑oriented teams in complex organizations.
  • Experience working with both in‑house and offshore/nearshore delivery models.
  • Demonstrated leadership in large‑scale modernization of application development practices, including delivery flow, quality automation, and cloud‑native development.
  • Strong understanding of the end‑to‑end software development lifecycle, modern engineering principles, and agile technical practices.
  • Experience introducing or governing the responsible use of AI‑assisted engineering practices within software development teams.
  • Ability to use metrics and insights to improve engineering effectiveness, quality, and flow.
  • A proven track record of coaching engineers and building capability across teams through influence rather than formal authority.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across engineering, product, and leadership levels.
  • Strategic thinking combined with a pragmatic, execution‑oriented mindset.
  • Commitment to working from the office at least three days per week to enable effective collaboration.
